Crystal Kite Awards
They are given each year by the Society of Children’s Book
Writers and Illustrators (
SCBWI
) to recognize great books from the
seventy
SCBWI
regions around the world. They are the only peer-
given awards in publishing by other children’s book writers and
illustrators.
Cuatrogatos Foundation Award
It was created to contribute to the dissemination of high quality
books. Each year, the jury analyzes a wide representative sample
of books in Spanish published by both small and large publishers
in Ibero-America and the United States.
Golden Kite Awards
Given annually by the Society of Children’s Book Writers and
Illustrators (
SCBWI
) to recognize excellence in five categories:
Young Reader and Middle Grade Fiction, Young Adult Non-fiction,
Picture Book Text, and Picture Book Illustration.
Hans Christian Andersen Award
This is the highest international recognition for children’s
literature. Every other year, the International Board on Books for
Young People (
IBBY
) presents the award to a living author and
illustrator for their complete works.
International Award for Children’s
and Young Adult Illustrated Book
Organized by the Mexican Ministry of Culture through the
Directorate-General for Publications within the International
Children’s and Young Adult Book Fair
FILIJ
, it promotes the
creation of illustrated books for children and awards the highest
quality works.
Junceda Illustration Awards
Given by the Professional Association of Illustrators of Catalonia
for residents of that community, it awards illustrations in several
categories, such as children’s fiction, comic, book covers, press
and magazine.
Lazarillo Award
It is the oldest award for children’s and young adult literature
given by the Spanish Organization for Children’s and Young
Adult Literature with the sponsorship of the Ministry of
Education, Culture and Sport, in two categories: illustrated
album and literary creation.
Brasserie Lipp Literature Award
The annual award, organized by the Brasserie Lipp restaurant,
was created to disseminate Spanish-language literature and its
authors.
Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (
ALMA
)
This award is given each year by the Swedish government to
a writer of children’s or young adult literature, an illustrator
or a promoter of reading from any country in the world.
National Illustration Award
Granted by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport,
its aim was, until 2017, to recognize and distinguish the best
unpublished works of illustration directed to children and young
adults included in works that have been published for the first
time in Spain since 2008, it rewards the trajectory of renowned
illustrators.
Nestlé Children’s Book Prize
Also known as the Nestlé Smarties Book Prize, it was an annual
award given to a British author. Administered by Booktrust,
an independent charity, and sponsored by Nestlé, it was one
of the most prestigious awards for children’s literature until 2008,
the year it was discontinued.
Prix Sorcières
Considered among the most prestigious awards in France, it is
awarded each year by the Association des librairies spécialisées
jeunesse and the Association des bibliothécaires de France to
works of children’s literature in a number of categories.
The New York Times Best Sellers
The newspaper’s list is published in its Sunday Book Review
where the titles of the top selling books of the week are listed in
categories from graphic novels to fiction. It is very influential in the
publishing industry and practically a guarantee of success.
Waterstones
Children’s Laureate
It is awarded once every two years and managed
by Book Trust, with the sponsorship of the Arts
Council England. The jury is made up of
organizations of librarians, booksellers,
writers, scholars and children.
The winner becomes an
ambassador, promoter and
defender of children’s
literature.
